What does playing the bass do for you?
I have a real passion for music. The feeling you get when your ensemble performs a piece to perfection is delightful. When the violins, violas, cellos, and basses all come together after weeks of practice and repetition, it is quite impressive. Music has also helped me to meet new people and I have had wonderful opportunities to play in a wide variety of settings.
I would have to say that AP Calculus AB has been a very interesting class for me this year. When the year started, I was feeling a little uncertain about the curriculum and the workload. However, Mrs. Carroll has made this one of my favorite classes. Lectures, notes, and other online resources have made this class a challenge as well as a wonderful learning experience.
How has playing sports affected your life?
Basketball has given me the opportunity to be a part of a team and I have established bonds with my teammates that I will cherish for the rest of my life. In addition, basketball has provided new options for me to play on the collegiate level at Division 1 schools and to be eligible for athletic scholarships.
Has your coach been a mentor?
Coach Billerman, the head men’s basketball coach, has challenged and pushed me throughout my time at Ravenscroft. He has given me advice in areas that I need to improve in on and off the court. After each season, we meet together to talk about how the season went. Coach Billerman has always been a person who is honest with me and and has believed in me and my abilities since my first game as a freshman starting on the varsity team.
Ian plans to major in health sciences and to play basketball in college.
